Tony Pollard was born in Los Angeles and has been playing piano for fifty five years. At age seven, he was performing unabridged Beethoven concertos in state-wide piano competitions, including one at the Hollywood Bowl, his first “ gig”. He is a composer, producer, arranger, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist (piano, keyboards, acoustic & electric guitar, saxophone and harmonica).
Tony has played with numerous bands in L.A., Northern California and San Francisco. His work spans multiple genres ranging from Pop/Top40, Funk, Rock and Jazz to Country Western, New Age, Solo Piano and Neo-Classical. He made his bones on the road in his twenties playing in bar and club bands. In 1987 Tony was asked to compose, produce and record soundtrack scores for the U.S. Literacy Project “Read Radio”, creating music for short stories written by people learning to read through P.L.U.S. (Project Literacy U.S.). These were broadcast on the radio as “radio plays.”
A career highlight was playing Vladimir Horowitz’s personal Steinway grand piano. Tony performed his own music on that instrument and was invited by the Steinway people to play at their new amphitheater.
Tony has performed in the U.S. and the Philippines.
Over the span of his half-century career, Tony has worked with numerous bands and individual artists, written jingles and produced and performed on several CD’s crossing multiple genres.
His latest project is coming out as an Indie recording artist in the AOR sector. Upcoming projects are planned for Contemporary Jazz pieces, Country/Western songs, and returning to his roots in Solo Piano.
Tony’s music can be heard on CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon and many streaming sites.
Tony is a member of BMI.
